Q How did the settlement of Anglos in the West affect the ecology of the region? How possible is it to understand the history of the West without prioritizing environmental factors?
A combination of recession and the Depression, along with mismanagement of farming and inability to hold on to the soil, further affected by the great winds and dust storms, lead to the migrations from the Great Plains into California by the Anglos (Fanslow, 1998). While it looked prospective to the Anglos that moving into California would throw up numerous opportunities for employment and be a great savior from the dust storms that were making life hard in the plains.
